FREE-LANCE PREACHER.
REV. A. JARDINE’S AIM. CRITICISM OF ARCHBISHOP. Received July 17, 9.45 a.m. NEW YORK, July 16. Tn an interview with the New York Times, Rev. Anderson Jardine, who performed the religious ceremony at the wedding of the Duke of Windsor, alleged that the Church of England had inspired hostile United States forces to persuade American charities to abandon sponsorship of his lectures. He threatened to “blow off the lid and expose tlie real reasons” for the Duke’s abdication in his first speech at Baltimore on July 22. He added that the political alliance of Earl Baldwin and the Archbishop of Canterbury (Dr. Cosmo Lang) had forced the abdication, and would lead to the disestablishment and disendowment of the Church. Mr Jardine said lie thought that the Archbishop of Canterbury’s whole attitute was unchristian. He added: “I will be a free-lance preacher when I return to England, delivering talks similar to those I intend to give in the United States. Certainly I will talk freely in England. I do not fear the Archliishop of Canterbury and the Church. I intend to tell tlie truth about them.”
