MOTOR CYCLE SPORTS.

The motor cycle races io be held on the Awapuni racecourse on New Year’s Day oiler something extra special in the way of tin-ills. No stone is being left unturned by the Manawatu Alotor Club to make this annual outmg an unqualified success. The track is in excellent condition and some amazing speeds are anticipated. 11. Maugham and D. Collison will be riding specially imported J.A.P. machines. The former ol these two formidable riders created a record for the Awapuni course by covering the mile in 43 seconds, yn average speed of nearly 75 miles per hour and Collison is confident this jear of his ability to better this. The well-known “sliced king,” Howard Tolley, will also be competing and his recent performances both on the grass truck and speedway have placed him in the first (light of motor cycle speedsters. Several late entries have been received, including the formidable R. Ranby and altogether an exceptional array of talent will be competing. J'lie Manawatu Racing Club lias kindly placed its course at the Motor Club's disposal, and as the surroundings are ideal it is anticipated that many patrons will take advantage of the picnic facilities offered. Hot water will be tup plied free by the caterers and afternoon tea, ice-cream and cuul drinks will be obtainable. A publican's booth will also be on the course. Patrons will be kept well in touch with the proceedings per medium of a loud speaker, fit addition to the motor cycle events Air G. \V. Sellars, ol Auckland will make a parachute descent during the afternoon. The first race is limed to start at one o’clock and succeeding races will be run otr with a minimum of delay. The Manawatu Alotor (flub is noted lor tile efficient conduct of its meetings over the past twenty-live years and the annual fixture on New Year’s Day should he no execution.
