NEW BRITISH MAYORS.
KEEN COMPETITION. There has been keen competition in many municipal councils in Britain for the distinction of being Mayor durng the Coronation year. The new Mayors range from a marquess to an old-age pensioner. Dr. Wynne Griffith, an octogenarian, was re-elected Mayor of Pwllheli, Carnarvon, and thus will serve in that office during a third Coronation. . The Marquess of Londonderry becomes Mayor of Durham, and Mr George Lansbury Mayor of Poplar. The ancient custom of weighing the Mayor was observed at High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, when Councillor Clarke, at lOst 31b, was found to be the lightest Mayor the town has had.
