THE BASIC WAGE.
DISCONTENT AT AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 26. The opinion that the Government should take steps to fix the basic wage instead of leaving it to tile Arbitration Court is gaining ground in union circles in Auckland. Some unionists consider that the Government made a mistake in delegating the powers to the Court, but say it is not too late to remedy the position. Representations are likely to be made to Cabinet. Meanwhile, the Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union intend demanding the same cash basic rate as is provided for other workers.
