MANAWATU WOMEN’S CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT. Tlie twelfth annual report of the Manawatu Women’s Club states: —We record a very successful year; ten meetings have been held, with an average attendance of 78. Sixteen new members joined the club and the membership is now 110. It is with deep regret we record the death of Mrs G. H. Espiner, who had been a loyal member for a number of years. The club’s activities have been varied, and the co-operation of the members has helped to make the meetings of social interest. The card afternoon to raise funds for a hamper for the Porirua Mental Hospital was held on a club day this year, and was an outstanding success, the net proceeds being £9 12s 6d. We extend our thanks to the members who donated the prizes for that afternoon. The garment afternoon was held in May and the gifts were forwarded to the local Plunket Society and district nurse. The birthday meeting was held in July. We express our sincere thanks to Mr ana Mrs J. H. Stevens for providing the birthday cake and to Mr L. H. Collinson for his generous gift. The playreading circle, under the direction of Miss Cranston, have taken an active part in the club’s activities throughout the year, and are to be congratulated on their excellent work. The club are again indebted to Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame for the use of the clubroom, and to Mrs Coates and the staff for arranging the room and for their excellent attention. We take this opportunity of thanking all those who contributed to the musical part of our programme, also to the following speakers for their most interesting addresses: Mrs W. M. Webster, Mrs A. E. Hansel, Miss Dorothy Turner, Mr H. H. Blandford, Dr. Ulric Williams and Mr It. H. Billens. We also thank the Press for reporting throughout the year the club’s activities, and Mr W. F. Goddard for his valuable services as honorary auditor.
