A WORLD LANGUAGE.

PETITION TO THE KING. The resolution introduced by Senator Macartney Abbott and passed by tlie Federal Senate, asking the petitioning of the King to convene a world convention, to consider the question of establishing an international language, has been forwarded to His Majesty. Information to this effect has been received from the Governor-General (Lord Gowrie) by the President of the Senate (Senator Lynch). Senator Abbott’s motion, which was keenly supported in the Senate, in spite of the opposition of Ministers, urged that, in order to break down bairiers and promote world peace-and international goodwill, an international language should be established, to be taught compulsorily in the schools of all the nations. The motion also asked that the terms of the resolution be forwarded to the King, with a request that he should convene a meeting of the representatives of the nations to consider the proposal.
