CROQUET.

MANAWATU v. WANGANUI. A match between six members of the Wanganui Croquet Association and representatives of the Manawatu Association itas played, yesterday, lieadquarters being at the Northern Club's greens, where all but two games were played, the Manawatu greens being utilised for the others. Wanganui carried off the honours with 195 points, and Manawatu gained 153 points. The visitors were welcomed by the president of the Manawatu Association (Mrs J. W. Robertson). Unfortunately, the weather was not all that could be desired, but some of the games were closely contested. Following are the results, Wanganui players being mentioned first: Singles.—Mr Jarvie 26 v. Mrs Bryan 23; Mr la Roche 26 v. Mrs Petrie 6; Mrs Jarvie 16 v. Mrs Glass 26; Mrs Amies 26 v. Mrs Nicholson 6; Mrs Kirk 26 v. Rev. E. W. Burgin 17. Doubles. —Mr and Mrs Jarvie 26 v. Mesdames Bryan and . Simpson 24; Mr la Roche and Mrs Amies 23 v. Mesdames Petrie and Nicholson' 26; Mrs Kirk and Mr Ogier 26 v. Mrs Glass and Mr. Burgin 25. Wanganui 195, Manawatu 153. BENNETT BUTTONS MATCH. A Bennett Buttons match was played at the Northern greens on Monday, when Mesdames Lee and Davenport (holders) were defeated by Mesdames Snelling and Mills, 26 —21. POLLOCK STARS. In a Pollock Stars match, played yesterday at the Northern Club, Mesdames Bryan and Woods (holders; were defeated by Mesdames T. Simpson and Langford, 26—15. BRIGHTON MALLETS. A Brighton Mallets match was won by default by Mesdames Garner and Read. HAWKE’S BAY TOURNEY. Playing in. the Hawke’s Bay croquet tournament at Hastings, Mrs R. D. Gam brill (Terrace End) was defeated by Mrs Watkins in both the first and second life singles. Mrs Gambrill won through to the nnal in the open singles, defeating Mrs Pitcaitliley in the semifinal, 26—25, 26 —22, only to meet defeat at the hands of Mrs Watkins in the final, 26—18, 26—3. In the final of the handicap doubles Mesdames Fenwick and Claugliton beat Misses Carrington and Millichamp, 26—16.
