SHARE FARMERS.

QUESTION OF INSURANCE

COMPENSATION FOR INJURY. (By Telegraph—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 15. One feature of the Workers Compensation Amendment Bill, which was introduced in the House of Representatives to-night, is an extension of the term worker to include share farmers, who are described as persons who, in consideration of a share from the returns or profits, are engaged in any class of farming operations other than under a contract of service. Air \V. J. Poison pointed out to the Alinister of Labour (Hon. H. T. Armstrong} that there were two classes of sharemilkers —one which secured a percentage of the receipts and the other, who owned the herd and shared fifty-fifty with the owners of the land. It would be unreasonable, he argued, if the latter class came under the provisions of the measure, making the landowner responsible for the insurance.

Air Armstrong replied that he did not think sharemilkers who owned herds were included, but, if so, some special provision would have to be made to deal with the position.
