PROPOSED LEGAL ACTION.

NOT TO BE PROCEEDED WITH

CR. TENNENT’S STATEMENT.

The statement was made to a “Standard” representative to-day by Cr. W. B. Tennent that it was not his intention to proceed any further with any contemplated proceedings, which he had announced at a recent meeting of the Palmerston North City Council to the effect that he was issuing against Cr. J. Hodgens, M.P.. in consequence of the reference to Cr. Tennent. contained in a telegram which Cr. Hodgens had forwarded to the City Council some three weeks ago. Cr. Tennent intimated to-day that though he considered the proper place for Cr. Hodgens to have made a withdrawal of the statement was at the council table, he understood, from people who had attended the public meeting in the Opera House on September 19, that Cr. Hodgens had there made the necessary withdrawal. Under the circumstances, said Cr. Tennent, he had decided to regard this matter as closed.
