NEW GOLF LINKS
FORMATION WORK FINISHED. PLANS FOR PAVILION. Formation work, except for minor activities, has been completed oh the new golf links being constructed hv the City Council at West End under agreement with the Pnlmerston North Golf Club, which takes over control of the course on April 1 next. With the exception of a portion of the old racecourse all the fairways and greens have been sown, and the grass has come away nicely. Three chains long, a stopbank is now to be built to prevent flooding of some ten acres of the old racecourse reserve when the Manawatu River rises. Plans have been prepared for a new pavilion and other facilities for the Golf Club. The estimated cost is about £IOOO, and the site tor the clubhouse will be close to the corner of Botanical and Park Roads. It will be a commodious wooden bunding with a ladies' room, a men’s room, and a large community roojr, from which a servery will lead to the back, connecting with the caterer » and professional’s quarters. the club’s professional will be provided with a house, at present standing on the reserve, which is to be moved to the site and connected with the clubhouse. The latter, of one storey only, will have glass verandahs giving a commanding view of the course. Car-parking facilities are being established on Park and Botanical Roads, which have been specially widened for the purpose, closely adjacent to the site for the clubhouse, and there will he rustic ornamental fences. . . When available the facilities should be eminently suitable for the newlyestablished links.
