EKETAHUNA, Oct. 3. Mrs John Dryadale, Macara Street, has returned from a holiday spent in the Wanganui district. Mrs J. 'Tucker, of Parkvillo, is spending a fortnight’s holiday in Wellington. Sir R. Payne, who has been a linesman for the Tararua Power Board for some years, has received a transfer to Pahiatua. Mr T. Hartley, of the Wellington Post Oflice, is visiting his parents, Mr and Airs C. Hartley, Alfrcdton.
Mr Irvine, chairman of the Mastorton branch of the National Party, addressed a representative meeting held in Ekctahuna. this week. It was decided to form a branch in Ekctahuna and officers were elected and dolegates appointed to attend meetings of the executive committee in Mastorton.
Miss At. G. Hickey, who has been assistant mistress at the Nircaha School for some years, has received notice of her appointment as solo teacher at Ngaturi. At the September meeting of the committee of the Ekctahuna D.H. School, at which Air IT. E. Grcalhcad was in the chair, those present were Alcssrs B. Rogers, R. B. McLellan, S. Daniel. R. Payne, and Air J. Gaskin, and Air A. P. L. Kennedy (headmaster) ; a vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Fox for her donation of a handknitted shawl for competition, and to Air J. Spring for the cartage of silt. Air R. Fox was elected to the committee in place of Air W. AlcGill (resigned). The secretary reported regarding information secured of the early days of tho school, and ho was instructed to proceed with the obtaining of this. It was decided to held the jubilee of the school early next year. The greens of tho Eketaluma Bowling Club are looking beautiful just now, the trimly clipped hedges forming a perfect setting for tho velvety lawns. The opening ceremony for the season's play is usually hold on Labour Day. A dance was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall by the Bowling Club, this week, at which the floor was comfortably filled for dancing Music was supplied by Alcssrs G. Olsen and K. Alarenzi. The ALC.’s were Alcssrs W. Simpson and A. A. Fredrickson. A lucky spot chain waltz was won by Airs Norton and Air W. Watts.
Tho Alethodist ladies held an afternoon gathering in the Sunday School. when games, items and a bring and buy stall wore the attractions. A nice sum was raised for the circuit funds. At the annual meeting of the Alfrcdton Rifle Club, officers were elected as follow: Patron, Air C. Kcbbcll; vice-presidents, Airs W. Algie. Alcssrs K. J. Didsbury, A. H. Herbert, S. K. Raleigh, senr., Purvis-Hay, R. W. Kebbell, J. Smith. H. N. Kcbbcll, li. Percy, L. Heckler, D. Parsonson. A. AA 7 cston, T. Groves; _ president, Air A. Edmonds; deputy president, All* G. Napier; secretary, Mr H. Percy. Local fishermen experienced a glorious day for the opening of tho season; rivers were at normal level and conditions were calm and clear. Since then, however, tho weather lias been anything but suited to fishing. . At tho annual meeting of the tararua Dofoncc Rifle Club, Air R. Thomason presided. Officers were elected as follow: Patron, Colonel A. IT. Herbert; president, Air R. P. A. Thomasen; vice-president, Air J. P. Sigvertson; secretary, Ah* S. R. Blewitt; assistant secretary, Air N. C. Petersen; auditor, Air R. Farrow; handicappers and selectors, Alcssrs R. Thomasen, J. P. Petersen and J. P. Sigvertson. The conditions of tho club championship were rearranged. A meeting of the Nircaha Tennis Club was held on Friday. Air E. B. Terry presided. Officers elected were: Patron, Mr H E Grcathcad; president, Mr B. Lozell; vice-president, All* AV. W. Drysdalc; secretary, All* J. Lawrence; auditor. Air J. L. Daysh; club captain. Air B. Lozell. Cups for competition woro given by Alcssrs E. B. Terry and B. Lozell.
