MISHAP IN NORTH

AUCKLAND, Oct. 4

A rabbit-shooting expedition to Ituncinia.n, 26 miles south of Auckland, early this morning ended with the death from a gunshot wound in the chest of John .Reginald Smith, married, aged 33, of Mount Roskill. The fatality occurred at about 2 a.m. In company with a girl aged 19, Smith left the city by motor car at 11 o’clock on Saturday night. Just beyond Huncinran they stopped the car. Smith got out and walked a few feet away, where he fired a shot to test

his .40 single-barrel shotgun. When a second shot was heard lus companion, who had remained in the car, saw him fall. Investigating, she found him dead. . Smith's compa.nion immediately drove to Auckland and reported the fatality to the police.
