Kairanga and Hokowhitu A table tennis teams played a match in the local hall during the week. Kairanga proved llte winners by 13 games •to 7. Follow ng are the results, local players being mentioned first:—Singles: W. Gloyn beat G. Sykes 31—22, J. Dale 31 —15, A. Dale 31 —22, G. Goldfinch 51 —19; R. Kirkland beat Goldfinch 31 —21, A. Dale 31*—24, lost to J. Dale 23 —31, Sykes 26 —31; R. Gloyn beat Goldfinch 31—28, A. Dale 31 —24, J. Dale 31—25, lost to Sykes 24 —31; C. Bunneister beat Goldfnch 31 —20; A. Dale 31 —26, lost to J. Dale 27 —31, Sykes 27 —31. Doubles: R. and W. Gloyn beat A. Dale and Goldfinch, 31—29, 31 —23; beat J. Dale and Sykes, 31—29, 29—31, 31 —29. Kirkland and ■ Burriieistcr lost to Sykes and J. Dale, 21 —31, 29 —31; lost to A. Dale and Goldfinch, 28—31, 32 —30, 24—31.
The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held last Tuesday afternoon. Airs P. Leamy, who presided, extended a welcome to all members and visitors, including several from the Alilson Institute. The secretary (Mrs W. AlcClelland) read the corrcsp-v idence. Votes of thanks were extended to Alessrs G. Davey and P. Leamy for their help at the recent Showin erecting- the stall, etc. _ Arrangements were discussed in connection with the % stitutc birthday. Mrs Child, of the Milson Institute, gave an interesting demonstration on rucked cushions. Several beautiful cushions were on display md were much admired. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Child at the close of the demonstration. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Jensen, Mailett and Kilgour. Competitions, which w-ere judged by Mrs C. W. Tu.ner. resulted as follow : Seniors, dark fruit cake: Airs W. AlcClelland 1, Mrs 11. Turner 2, Mrs G. Davev 3: knitted bed socks, Airs E. Mallett i, Mrs N. Turner 2, Mrs W. McClelland 3. Juniors, four jam tarts, (puff pastry) : Aliss S. Bunneister 1, Miss S. Kilgour 2, Miss F. Eglinton 3. Knitted bed socks: Miss G. Hyde 1, Miss Al. Small 2, Aliss T. Ivilgour 3. A “bring md buy’ stall in charge of Mesdames Lewis and Burmeister ...did good business. Hie hostesses for next month are Aliss Small, Mesdames Smith, C. Turner and H. Turner. Competitions are: Seniors, four girdle scones; juniors, best worked traced apron. The fortnightly euchro party was held last night. The attendance was not so large as on previous occasions. Supper was served by the ladies. The following were the winners: I-adies, Miss Jean Glascow ii id Airs 11. Turner, cut for first and second nlaces, the former taking the first prize, and Mrs Turner second; the men’s prizes were won by Mr W. Cumm'ngs 1, Mr 6. Davey 2. A competition was won by Mr F. Cummins 1, Mrs J. Burmeister 2, Mr \V. Cummings 3. Aliss Taylor-, of Gisbo nc, is the guest of Mrs J. Burmeister. Aliss M. Small is on holiday, motoring through the. South Island with Mr and Airs A. McCool, of Woodville.
