WHAKARONGO.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WHAKARONGO, July 18.

Oil Friday afternoon the Whakarongo School basketball and football teams were visited by two teams from Bunnythorpe. Although the girls lost by 17 goals to 6, quite a good game was played, but as Bunnythorpe were the stronger and more experienced team they proved easy winners, The footballers also lost their match by 46 points to nil, but with more practice should prove to be quite a good team. The juniors were very good at tackling and were not daunted by their defeat. It is to the children's advantage that their hew headmaster (Mr Wood) lias taken an interest in their sport and with practice should he able to give kindred schools some good games. Some of the parents came to watch their children play. Afternoon lea was served to the players. Next Friday the same two teams will play Ashlmrst at Ashhurst.

Mrs C. M. King and Miss 11. King, of Hastings, arc the guests of Mr and Mrs W. K. Woodd. Mr and Mrs Kyle and Miss E. Kyle, who have been the gueots of Air and Mrs G. Shannon, have returned to Waipukurau. Mr and Mrs R. Jones, of New Plymouth, arc staying with Mr and Airs \V. T. Jones.
