TWO WOMEN ON HOLIDAY.
DRIVE 3500 MILES TO DARWIN. Miss B. Mendham and Miss R. Gunn recently arrived in Darwin, utter having driven a car 3500 miles from West Maitland (N.S.W.). The two women, who were in quest of an unusual and adventurous holiday, conceived the idea of driving overland through New South Wales, Queensland, and the Northern Territory to Darwin. They spent about a month on the road, experienced no mechanical trouble, and received their first puncture at Darwin. They camped only three nights, timing their daily runs between stations. Their longest daily stage was 2-10 miles across the Barkly Tableland, from Brunette Downs to Newcastle Waters, They took turns at the wheeL They said that their only adventure were the sight of crocodiles in the Roper River, Northern Territory, and the shooting of several snakes. They propose shipping their car and return-j ing home by steamer. (
