LONDON FASHIONS.

MID-SEASON COLOURS. New influences are discernible in the t rooks for the Royal garden receptions and Ascot, says the London Times. A vast amount of hand work is shown and also a good deal of pleating. The tunic influence is strong, particularly in evening clothes. A number of Ascot gowns have accessory coats, and the same is true of a great number of evening frocks, some of the little coats of the younger gowns haying a Victorian look. Over plain white organza a short coat in black and white broderie anglaise is worn and made fitting in to the waist, A short blue t'lffeta coat like a Victorian pelisse was shown with a white broderie anglaise gown mounted on royal blue.tafleta. Many printed silks are being used. Some unusual colour effects are seen in tlie more elaborate race frocks; black marquisette is used to veil a printed silk whose colours are defined in bands of ribbon on the overskirt; pale primrose yellow marquisette veils a lavender crepe de chine, and grey chiffon printed in cabbage roses is mounted on pale pink chiffon, which in turn is mounted on crepe-do-chine. Thistledown layers of filmy material deftly used add interest to'the new gowns. Elaborate appliques of cut-out flowers appear on all the floral printed gowns.

Clothes for young girls are shown in greater numhers than usual. The new qi'ganzas and broderie anglaise are used tor old-world frocks, and all the prettiest frocks seem to have a period note. The old-fashioned bodice' off-the-skirt has appeared ; but it is an illusion, for the little buttons do unbutton and the prim collar is high, but the dress is aTI in one. Flowers in waist-posies appear on many frocks. If a dress is in a floral print a lew of the flowers are taken and thrust into the belt, and if the frock is in a solid colour or in -white then some vivid note is struck by a little bunch of flowers. Hats for farden parties also show a good deal of flower trimmings.
