OHAKEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) OIIAKEA, June 29._ The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute avus held in the hall and was Avell attended. A a instructive demonstration of tucking and hemming Avas given on an electro machine by Mr Lewis. The competitions. resulted as follow: Child’s knitted singlet, Mrs Ayers; cream puffs, Mrs Hazelwood. No ordinary meeting will be held next month, but tlie birthday of the branch will bo celebrated Avith a concert and dance. A “hard-up” and fancy dress dance will also he held to augment the branch funds. The Sunshine Committee reported having visited several sick folk. The Sunday school tea and concert Avere held in the Ohakea Hall on Friday night. There Avas a good attendance and tho high standard of the items presented reflected great credit on those responsible. The programme opened with a hymn, prayer and chorus, folloAving Avhich the following items AvOre rendered : —Recitation, Eric Masters; hymn, Stella Tremain and Ruth Rowe; recitation, Harry Palmer; recitation, S. llowc and Thomas Masters; duet, L. Roavo and Thomas Masters; dialogue, infants, James Palmer, Eric Masters, Botly Matthews, Betty Masters, Dawn Ellery and Harry Palmer; recitation, N. Rowe, Nora Hainmon, and Tui Masters; duet, Tui Masters, L. RoAve; recitation, Tui Masters, Nora Hainmon; duet. Ncllio Mastors and Jean Masters; quartette, Tui Masters, Nora Hammon, Thomas Mastors and L. Rowe; recitation. Miss Ellery: solo, Nellie Masters; dialogue Bible class members; quartette, Nellie Masters, Jean Masters,'Mr 11. Ro>ve and Edward RoAve. Mr Peg’lor, of Palmerston North, gave an interesting address and Mr T. Tremain thanked Mr Rowe and his staff and the scholars for the enjoyable entertainment given. The Sanson and Ohakea junior Rugby teams tried conclusions on Saturday and in a hard game Sanson proved winners by nine points to nil. Apart from occasional passing bout 3 by the Sanson_ backs, the gamo degenerated into a series of loose forward rushes by both teams. The Sanson forwards and backs, when in possession, were always doing something and displayed more finish than the local team. Many promising movements by the Ohakea team were spoilt by infringements. Apart from Quinlan and Hazelwood, tho green pack Avere not very virile in their work and lacked the pace of the opposing pack, who played together much better. Sanson’s first try, by Tattle, was the ro9ult of a loose rush. Matthews scored tho next try from a good passing bout and Glasgow also crossed as a result of smart back play. Lumsden wits safe at fullback for Sanson, avlio Avoro also bettor served at half and by their inner backs. Mr P. Richardson controlled the gnmo. Miss Nellie Mastors has returned from her holiday in Christchurch. Mr J. H. Palmer has been confined to his bod with an attack of influenza. Messrs Hedley and Hoskin have been on a motor car tour of the North Island. Mr H. Rcdpath has now taken over the property of Mrs Shonrock Mr and Mrs P. J. Hammon and family have left, to settle at Te Iloe in the Waikato district.
