INDICATIONS IN AMERICA

WASHINGTON, April 23

The. fear of .another disastrous drought was expressed by Mr H. A. AA r allace (Secretary of Agriculture) in his report to-day indicating that several western and southern States, of a total area embracing 30,000 acres, were in the grip of a severe spring dry spell. The records of the 1934 drought, the most severe in the country’s history, had been broken in some localities. From certain sections of lowa, where precipitation was 26 per cent, of the normal, it had dropped to 2 per cent, of the normal. In certain portions of the Dakotas onlv heavy rains in May and June would, it was believed, save the situation.
