LINER QUEEN MARY.

IMMENSE SPEED REPORTED. LONDON, April 19. The News-Chronicle says that, although experts estimated the Queen Mary’s speed at 32.84 knots, it is understood that the liner’s speed was nearer 35 knots on one run. If this is officially confirmed this speed of nearly 41 miles an hour gives the Queen Marjr a big advantage over the Normandie,' whose highest speed, 32 knots, is a mercantile record. The Normandie, in her trails over a measured course off Brest, attained on three runs speed of 30.156, 32.125, and 31.925 knots. During a subsequent eight-hour trial the mean speed maintained was 30.894 knots. At a speed of about 29 knots the consumption of fuel per mile was about the same as that of the He de France (43,450 tons) at 231 knots. The Normandie’s highest speed on her first Atlantic voyage was 32.3 knots.
