IMPROVEMENTS TO DEFENCES. LONDON, April 19. The Daily Telegraph’s naval correspondent says that the Government is acting to bring Malta’s defences up to the highest state of efficiency against all forms of attack, as the island, contary to Italian reports, is regarded as more important than ever. Its defences have already been strengthened since last autumn. The authorities reject the idea that air attack alone could render Malta untenable.
