TRAPPED IN MINE.

BEING FED BY PIPE LINE. MEN STILL ALIVE. MOOSE RIVER nr , (lNovia Scotia), April 20. A thin pipe line was to-day forced down to the 141-foot level of the deserted gold mine as the only means of saving the lives of the three men who were entrapped by a cave-in ftweek ago. Working relays of miners have been digging frantically to reach the men, only to have repeated slides delay their work. By the use of the pipe line communication has been established and small quantities of food, medicine, and other necessities supplied. The men trapped in the mine are Dr. D. E. Robertson, a prominent suigeon, Mr Herman Magill, lawyer, both residents of Toronto, who are co-owners of the mine, and Mr Alfred Scudding, mine employee. They were inspecting the property when the accident occurred. The wives of the three men, who have been keeping vigil at the mine, conversed briefly with their husbands, who reported that they were well, although they had suffered from hunger and cold. By use of the pipe, miners said they could keep the men “alive for six months, if necessary.” A cable dated April 15 stated that hope had been abandoned for the three men, who had been buried for three days as a result of an abandoned gold mine caving in. A second slide bad forced 100 rescuers to flee for their lives. Hard rock miners sped 700 miles by aeroplane from Ontario to help in the rescue work. Smoke signals from the men through a fissure ceased immediately after the second cave-in.
