FARM LABOUR.
SHORTAGE IN FRANKLIN. PUKEKOHE, Dec. 6. With the advent of summer weather this week, farmers in the Franklin district have commenced the season’s haymaking operations. A large proportion of hay paddocks have already been mown and other farmers contemplate making a start within the next few days. However, as is general in other districts, farmers are finding themselves handicapped by a serious shortage of farm labour, both for haymaking opera Fons and general farm work. Strong youths with some experience of farm work are apparently not obtainable, although farmers are offering permanent positions at from £1 to £1 10s per week and found.
