MINING DISPUTE.
HOPE FOR SETTLEMENT. Received November 21, 12.50 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 20. “Tho coal owners are determined to do all they can to raise the price of coal so as to make it.possible for the miners to get a higher standard of living,said Mr Jones, tho chairman of the South Wales Coal Owners’ Assoc.aition, at Cardiff. The Lord Mayor said that whether it was a mere threat or a strike lockout the owners and tho men would have to get together eventually, and ho appealed to them to settle their differences now. Mr Joseph Japes, the president of the Mine Workers’ Federation, said: The election successes in the mining districts show that the public are in sympathy. The miners’ approach to the Prime Minister means we are anxious to avert a winter stoppage. We do not intend procrastination until 1936.
