MINISTER OF FINANCE.

ROLE OF GODFATHER. Per Press Association. NAPIER, Nov. 21. Rt. Plon. J. G. Coates this morning stood godfather to John Gordon Lawrence Speakman, the infant son of Mr and Mrs John Speakman, of Napier. Mr Coates and Mr Speakman were together in France and at Passcliendaele in 1917. Together with Mr Coates’s batman, Lawrence Towers, they fought in the hot engagement and took 200 German prisoners. The child bears the names of the three men.
