AUCKLAND MARKETS. AUCKLAND, Nov. 19. The chief feature of the local grain and produce markets at present is the unsettled condition of the potato market. Merchants were glad to see the end of the southern season-, with supplies scarce, and prices so high as to be almost prohibitive, they welcomed the advent of the Pukekohe new season's crop. A week ago this promised to be abundant, and capable of satisfying market requirements from then on. Unfortunately, more wet weather has interfered with digging, and at the moment merchants are not in a position to give firm quotations either as to price or delivery date. Under the circumstances, the needs of the city have to bo met by such supplies as are available from suburban growers. Southern are quoted at 12s fid per cwt, and Pukekohe nominally 16s on trucks. Onions are firmer. Canadian and Californian are quoted at 17s per 1001 b bag. Further shipments of feed oats are coming from Australia, and the local price of chaff has been raked 2s 6d to £8 2s 6d per ton. Fowl wheat is coming to hand regularly from Australia and meets a good demand at 5s 7d per bushel. Maize is still very scarce. The selling price has been advanced another penny a bushel to 5s lid. Cheaper pollard from Melbourne is not due till the end of the month, but meanwhile merchants have reduced the local price of Australian by 5s to £7 10s per ton.
