AVIATION DISPLAY.
THREE PARACHUTE JUAIPS. Three parachute jumps bv Pilot-Offi-cer “Scotty” Fraser, who is now residing in Palmerston North, were a feature of flying activities at the Milson Aerodrome during the week-end., when inter-club aviation competitions were held before an exceptionally large crowd, the weather being perfect. There were ten planes on the field, pilots being present from Taranaki, Wanganui, Hawke’s Bay and AA rairarapa, besides Alanawatu. The AVairarapa team —very experienced pilots —won by nine points in the aggregate, Hawke’s Bay being second with seven points, Manawatu third with three points, and Western Federated fourth with two points. The competitions consisted of landing, bombing, mes-sage-dropping and aerobatics. Alanawatu won the bombing and AVairarapa the landing and aerobatics, .Mr A. Buchanan getting the most points in the latter with a spectacular dis--1 Using a. neiv type of parachute, and one which had been carried by Lord Sempill’s expedition over Alt. Everest, Mr Fraser gave it its first trial at 11.40 a.rn., when lie jumped from a plane controlled by Flying-Officer Duthie. pilot-instructor to the Alanawatu Aero Club He leaped, into space trom a height of 1500 feet, delaying the openinn of the parachute for 500 feet, to land safely. Jumping from a height of 1400 feet at 3 p.m.. he nulled the ripcord when only 300 feet trom the ground, after a thrilling liead-over-heels fall. His third jump was made from 1600 feet at 4.30 p.m., another delayed opening being made, the descents were made completely according to schedule, and he landed within he boundaries of the aerodrome each time.
