DEBATE ON WAR.

DOMINION’S ASSISTANCE. The Massey Agricultural College Debating Society challenged the Palmerston North Literary and Debating Society on Friday for the Times Cup in a debate on the subject: That New Zealand should assist Great Britain in a war to which Great Britain has committed herself, no matter what the cause or occasion.” The city society took the affirmative and the collegians the negative, the former being the holders of the trophy. A keenly contested debate resulted in a win for the challengers by 190 points to 193. The speakers for the affirmative were Messrs H. G. Mills, K. N Struthers, T D. Alty, and for the negative Messis w F Hamilton, E. M. Ojala, and W. F. Winstone. Mr M. H„ Oram acted as adjudicator and gave an able criticism of each peformer. A vote of thanks to Mr Oram was carried by acclamation. ' . Mr Sutton, the president ot the Massev College Society, expressed appreciation of the stimulus that had been given to inter-society- debates by the donation of the trophy, and hoped that this would be the forerunner of more debates between the two societies After -the conclusion of the debate the teams’ and the audience were entertained .at supper.
