ACTIVITIES DURING AUGUST,

FIFTEEN NEW HOUSES

Authority for the erection of 15 new houses is a feature of the building permits isued by the Palmerston North City Council for the month ending today. This is the largest number of new dwellings contemplated for some months, and indicates that development of residential areas is proceeding very rapidly. The total value of the permits issued during August was £13,301, including £11,285 for the fifteen new houses. The aggregate value of the permits ill August of last year was £4353, of which six new houses accounted for £3825. Actually, compared with the corresponding month of 1934, building permits this month have quadrupled in value, hast month they were treble those for July of 1934. Since the commencement of scheme No 12, which provides for a subsidy on new buildings, 179 applications have been received for work estimated to cost £122,555 Is Gd, and estimated to receive subsidies totalling £8,600. The major portion of this work has received approval, although a number of applications are still under consideration. Under the scheme for subsidies on alterations and renovations, 96 applications have been received to a total value of £10,401 13s 9d, and estimated to carry a subsidy of approximately £358 19s sd.
