MILSON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILS ON, Aug. 22. The Coronation Hall at Terraco Fnd presented a gay scene on Monday evening, the occasion being the celebration of tbe third birthday party of the Milson Women's Institute, the gathering taking the form of a. social and dance. There wore in the vicinity of some three hundred persons present, including a largo numbor of visitors from the various institutes in tho surrounding districts. The hall was beautifully decorated in greenery and red roses, with large spiral docorations descending from the electric lights, and with tho many beautiful dresses it presented a pretty scene. Mrs F. G. Murphy, the president, extended a welcome to all present. Tho music was supplied by a professional orchestra, the duties of Al.C.’s being carried out by Mesdamcs Renwick and Childs. The opening number was the institute song by the members of tbe singing circle. Tho opportunity was taken by Mrs Childs to present. bouquets to Mrs Murphy and Miss Prentice (secretary) for their untiring efforts on behalf of the institute. The drama, “The Twelve-Pound Look,” which was recently presented at the drama festival conducted by the North Wellington Federation of Women’s Institutes, and was awarded second place, was presented, the performance received well merited applause. Those taking part wore Mrs F. Murphy, -Miss F. Whittaker, Mr Renwick, and Air F. Murphy. The other drama, “Chimney Corner,” which entered at tho festival, was also presented, Mesdames Olds, Bruce, T. King, McKenna, and Aiisscs Prentice and Terry taking the parts. This was also well received. Other items presented were —Recitation in character, Zoc Rabone; quartette, “Sweet and Low,” Mendamcs Clapham, Morris, Dymock, and Robbie; song, “Passing By,” Air J. Bailey; clog dance, Claude Henderson; character recitations, “Tomboy” and “Little Boy Blue,” Aneice Gilbert; songs, “Home Sweet Homo” and "National Songs,” members of the Singing Circle. The members of the folk dancing circle presented a minuet, Airs Hutchison being tho soloist, and Mesdames Hammond, Alunro, Aiudgway, Huntingdon, Fleck, Do Vantior, and Aliss Terry taking part. "The Floral Dance” was also presented, Airs Johnson being soloist and Alesdauics Hutchison, Hammond, Aiunro, Aludgway, Huntingdon, Fleck, Do Vantior Williams, and Alisses Terry and Procter (2) taking part, the performers in their folk costumes presenting a pretty scene, while the dances were very gracefully performed. Tho accompaniments were played by Mesdames Murphy, C'lapham and Norris. Tho beautiful two-tiered birthday cake, which was made by Alosdames Murphy, McKenzie and Childs, was exquisitely decorated. Mrs Pitt, tiio oldest member of the institute, was asked to light the three candles, while Miss C'lapham, the youngest member, was invited to blow them out. Aliss Grant, president of the North Wellington Federation, was invited to cut the cako, and prior to doing so stated that it gave her great pleasure, as the Milson Institute was looked upon as a very active body, and everything undertaken by it was done well. She wished it continued success. Mrs l<eatuy (Ktiiranga), Mrs Jackson (Bunnythorpe), Mrs AlcEwen (liakitahuna) and Mrs Bond (Awuhuri) wished the Allison institute every success, and ulso endorsed tho remarks expressed by Miss Grant. Apologies lor absence were received from Newbury and r l'© A lucky piece in tbe cake, entitling the finder to a gift, was won by Aliss Lois AlcKenzio. Snowball, streamer and Monte Carlo dances were held, the winners of the Aloote Carlo boing Mr and Mrs h. Williams. Supper was served and handed round by members of the institute. It _was well after midnight when a happy gathering was brought to a close. 'J lie proeeodjngs reflected groat credit, on the work ot the committee in organising such an enjoyable function.
