A lone bandit who, from a description, the police believe to be "William Mahan, a fugitive wanted in connection with the Weyerhaeuser kidnapping, stole 500 dollars from a bank in the town of Qrting to-day, and, m escaping, killed two police officers. The bandit left the bank in an automobile. and- police watching the surrounding roads halted him on suspicion. Without warning lie shot and killed both men. Federal agents and local police, who are engaged in a widespread hunt, pointed out that, although Mahan is supposed still to have some 100,000 dollars of the ransom money from the Weyerhaeuser kidnapping, the serial numbers of the currency have been widely published, and he is no doubt hard up for funds.
