RELIEF SCHEAIE ALTERED. ALLOCATION OF HOURS. Advice has l>een received by the local certifying officer (Air AV. H. Cadwallader) that the Unemployment Board has decided that the recent increases in the relief scale of 2s per week for single men and 3s per week for married men as from July 1 in respect of scheme No. 5 and sustenance men shall be granted in the form of a free bonus for which men shall not be required to perform any additional work. AV here relief workers have duly carried out extra work for the increased pay, they will, in the week ended July 27, he given equivalent time off and paid therefor. Lt has further l>een decided by the Unemployment Board that in future tlie time to be worked for monetary relief under scheme No. 5 shall he the same as applied prior to July 1, with the exception that where tire time to he worked, as represented by the ration of relief, does not fit evenly into half clays, that work is to be performed to the nearest half day below. instead of, as previously, to the nearest hour. This will obviate the necessity for men renorting on any job for anv period of less than half a day. It is emphasised that this has now been granted by the board as an extended concession to relief workers.
