RANGITIKEI.
MARTON, July 16. Mr S. Gibbs, who won the first wheelbarrow wager, has now undertaken to wheel Mr R. Meads, who weighs 22 stone, from the latter’s home to Marton —a distance of 11 m ilcs —; n hours, the wager being £5 a-side. Mr Gibbs has offered. his barrow to the Returned Soldiers’ Association to be raffled or .auctioned as they may decide, the proceeds to go to the assistance of unemployed soldiers. An application has already been made for permission to conduct an art union. Mr K. J. Wilde, “Mirfield,” is staying at Reniuera, Auckland, as the guest of Mr Wilkie, formerly of Marton. Mrs A. Stuart, “Runnymede,” is visiting her sister, Mrs Lock, Hamilton. Misses Betty and Joyce Wilson, Wanganui, have been the guests of Miss Rosalind Arkwright.
