Fierce claps of thunder and vivid lightning flashes, accompanied l>y heavy rain, have been sweeping the city'and suburbs throughout-the evening. Reports from Thames late to night state that floods on Hnuraki Plains are threatening, while in North Auckland the situation is becoming more serious hour by hour.
