TRAFFIC CENSUS.
ANOTHER THIS MONTH. Tlie next Dominion-wide traffic census is to be taken from January 25 to 31 inclusive, according to advice received by the Manawatu County Council yesterday from the Main Highways Board, which asked that arrangements ho made for a similar tally to that taken bv all authorities in August of 1934. Tally men, it was added, would be paid 10s 6d per shift, and double time on Sunday. The cost to local author- j ities, over and above the amount being borne by the Unemployment Board, j would bo subsidised by the Main High- ] ways Board at the rate of £3 for £l. j If, however, any local authority was : not prepared to accept this basis of payment, the board would find the whole of the balance of the cost. The . same tally points would be used as on j the previous occasion. Instructions were issued to the engineer to take steps to have this tally taken, together with a special one , on the Himatangt—Sanson section j showing the destinations of motor j vehicles, for the information of the County Council.
