FREAK RADISH.
Plant life often assumes strange forms, and. vegetable gardens yield from time to time curiously grown ’ potatoes and other tubers. Mrs J. Whiteman, of Rangiotu, to-day brought before the notice of a “Standard” reporter a red radish which had the first section of a “grannie” knot perfectly formed two inches below the crown. The radish had not strangled itself in its growth, the section in the knot being about the size of a man’s little finger. Below the knot the radish was showing a visible swelling, indicating that it was growing the main edible portion in that section. A portion of four or fi,ve inches below the knot was suitable for table use.
