SEED MARKET
DISTRICT PROSPECTS. “A considerable area of wheat was again sown down in the Rangitikei, Manawatu and Wairarapa districts, but the wet harvest period seriously affected the quality through sprouts and excessive moisture,” said Mr T. Currie, chairman of directors, at the annua] meeting of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Coy., Ltd., at Feilding yesterday, when reviewing the general position of the farming industry. “The operations of the Wheat Board are not looked upon with favour in these districts, as growers feel they 7 can satisfactorily market their own produce. Oats and chaff have been in short supply, but the present limited market for these lines rather discourages their production. Certified ryegrass again figured prominently as an important branch of seed raising, some 2000 acres being shut up in the Wellington province. Values are higher than for the previous season, but meantime the demand has proved very limited,” added Mr Currie.
