RONGOTEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, Nov. 13.
Judging in connection with the No. 2 group of the calf clubs competitions took place at Rongotea yesterday before a large and interested company. The judges were Messrs H. Ranford (dairy type) and H. R. Green (care and attention). Mr W. J. Croucher welcomed the judges and said it was the first time he had- been able to secure the services of Mr Ranford. Mr Green was well-known to them, having acted as judge when the club was first formed. Mr Ranford briefly outlined the points to be looked for in a good dairy type, and Mr Green spoke of the need of attention to details in handling the calves, the correct methods of handling, leading and ring-craft necessary to allow the animal to create a favourable impression on the judge. Awards were made as follow: — Donald Arnott and Keith Noel received prizes for three-year-old and yearling respectively. Dairy typo: Winnie Amies’s Betty T; Hector Bottcher’s Jinny 2; Gordon Baylis’s Red 3; Arthur Simonson’s Tui 4. Care and attention: Olive Bottcher’s Bonnie 1; Hector Bottcher’s Jinny 2; Kathleen Slattery’s Tricksey 3; Winnie Amies’s Betty 4. Mr Croucher thanked the supervisors and complimented the children on their exhibits, and in conclusion exhorted the parents to sustain and increase tho interest of the children in calf rearing.
