STRONG PROTEST.

THE DAIRY REPORT; WRONG PRESCRIPTION ALLEGED Per Press Association. WHANGAREI, Nov. 22. At a largely attended conference of No. 1 ward of the Dairy Control Board Mr W. Grounds made a strong attack’ on the report as originally presented by the Dairy Commission. He said the mind of the Commission had got out of focus and this had led to false conclusions and misguided recommendations. . ‘ The predominant conclusion, lie said, was that the industry was seriously sick, but he could not help thinking that the Commission was prescribing for the wrong case. _ Many of the requests made by the industry had been approved by the Commission. In those requests, however, there was no indication that the industry was sick and needed a receiver or manager to run its affairs. ...... _ . The meeting resolved that the Government be asked for a subsidy to cover the running costs of the average dairy farm and provide a reasonable standard of living to farmers, this relief to apply from the beginning of the present season and to continue until the price level rises above the level agreed upon as the minimum It was also resolved to protest against the legislation providing for the establishment of an overriding Council of Production and Trade, also that if a co-ordination body is deemed advisable the major producing boards should be represented by a producers’ representative, also that the producers’ representation should be 100 per. cent. in any reconstituted Dairy Board. The meeting resolved to. vigorously oppose quantitative restrictions.
