NEW ROAD BRIDGE.

FEILDING-BUNNYTHOUPE HIGHWAY. Costing in the vicinity of £IBOO, the new reinforced concrete bridge to span tlie Alaugaoue stream, on the Bunny-thorpe-Keilding highway, is nearing completion and it is estimated that it will he opened for traffic well before Christinas. Actually. the contractors will have finished their work by the end of this week. At present they are engaged in the construction of the hand rails and this is well advanced. All that will remain to he done will ho the clearing away of the timber used. Although the biidge will bo complet-

ed this week, the concrete work has to dry out and usually about 21 days are allowed for this purpose. In the meantime, the Oroua County Council will attend to the 'approaches, which will require filling and building up to road level. The new bridge replaces an old totara structure which served the requirements of the council for almost half a century. Whereas the wooden bridge was wide enough only for one-way traffic, the new one is 98 feet long and 20 feet wide and tlms provision has been made to facilitate modern traffic. At the Bunnythorpe end two retaining walls 15 feet and 26 feet long respectively have been built. For some months, while building operations have been in progress, heavy traffic bad to lie diverted to another route and light traffic only was permissible via a metalled sale track.
