CALF REARING

DISTRICT COMPETITION. GROUP FOUR RESULTS. Excellent quality calves came before the judge, Mr A. Montgomerie, of Awahuri, when the group comprising the Poliangina, Rauinai, Ashhurst and Bunnythorpe schools in the Boys’ and Girls’ Calf Club competitions were judged yesterday. Mr F. McKenzie(Bunnytliorpe), group supervisor, accompanied the judge, with Mr E. H. Lange, agricultural instructor, Feilding. POHANGINA. At the Poliangina School, which has a roll number of just over 20 pupils, 10 calves of excellent quality were exhibited, the judge complimenting the pupils on their efforts and the parents on the interest displayed in the competitions. The following were the awards:— Dairy type.—Kevin Baliner’s Nurse 1. Errol Drummond’s Jenny Lee 2, Richard Moar’s Lulu 3, Joan Wood’s Pearl 4, Edward HoekJy’s Clover 5. Care and attention. —Richard Moar 1, Errol Drummond 2, Joan Wood 0, Kevin Balmor 4, Maisie Wood’s Ruby 5. RAUMAI. Dairy type.—James Rowbotham’s Gipsy 1, 'Winifred Hanlon’s Daisy 2, Erie Youle’s Pansy 3, Ernest Mephan's Moonlight 4. Caro and attention.—The placings in this class were the same as in the dairy type. ASHHURST. Seven calves were paraded at this school, all showing evidence of good treatment. The judge’s placings were as under:—

Dairy typo. —Trevor King's Daisy ], Edna King’s Lass 2, Doris Hackett’s Dawn 3, Lois Currie's Peggy 4, Alice Doreen’s Beauty 5. Care and attention.—Alice Doreen 1, Lois Currie 2, Trevor King 3, Edna King 4, Doris Haekett 5. BUNNYTHOH PE. Eleven calves came before Mr Montgomerie at Bunnythorpe, the quality being outstanding and occasioning the judge considerable difficulty in making his awards. Ho expressed the opinion that any one oF the lirst six calves was fit to take it place in any show ring. The awards were as follow : Dairy type. Alice O’Donnell’s Valerie 1. John Cheetham’s Kahn 2, Norman Coker’s Clematis 3. Neil Cheetham’s Laura 4, Peter Coker’s Daphne 5. Care and attention.—John Cheetham 1, Neil Cheetham 2, Norman Coker 3, Arthur James’s Glaxo 4, Peter Coker 5.
