INTER-EMPIRE RUGBY
A CONFERENCE DESIRED. INVITATION FOR NEXT YEAR. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. An invitation has been extended by the Rugby Football Union (England) to New Zealand as well as other overseas Dominions to attend the Rugby football conference to be held in England about December 12, 1935. In making the announcement, Mr S. S. Dean, chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union’s management committee, stated that the English Rugby Union offered to pay first-class passages from Wellington of two New Zealand delegates. It is proposed to hold another conference early in January, 1936. This one would be attended by representatives of the four Home unions as well as by delegates from South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. The New Zealand Rugby Union’s management committee, Mr Dean added, had asked the affiliated unions for suggestions to put before the proposed conference. The management committee would hold a meeting to consider them and decide whether a special meeting of New Zealand delegates be held to consider what proposals should be forwarded for presentation at the conference.
At least three New Zealand officials are likely to go to England next year on official Rugby Union business, one as manager and the other two as delegates to the conference. Nothing has been done as yet in the matter of making appointments, though it was known there were a number of candidates for the position of manager of the team. It seems now that with two delegates to be appointed there will he plenty of candidates offering, especially as it will not h© necessary for delegates to be away for the full period of the tour.
