SERVICE TO LEVIN DISTRICT.

LATE MR C. K. WILSON. Tributes to the work of the late Mr C. K. Wilson, who passed away at Te Kuiti on Monday, were paid at a meeting of the Levin Borough Council on Monday evening. The Mayor (Mr P. W. Goldsmith) said Mr Wiison was a resident of Levin many years ago and was a prominent citizen. As a member of long standing of the Horowhenua County Council and in business as an auctioneer, he was wellknown. His chief public work and one to which he devoted much energy, was the promotion of the water-race scheme for the district. At one time, the Mayor stated, certain enthusiasts tried artesian wells for gaining a supply of water. A small syndicate was formed, but their endeavours failed. The waterrace system was then tried and largely through the work of the late Mr Wilson, it was brought to a successful issue. As Mr Wilson was an old resident and one who played an important part in the affairs of the town the Mayor moved that the council express its sympathy to Mrs Wilson and family.

Cr. F. G. Roe said lie was associated with tli9 late Mr Wilson on the waterrace scheme, which had been the deceased gentleman’s chief interest. He had. played a prominent part in the progress and welfare of the town. As a mark of respect and in sympathy with the relatives, councillors stood in silence, when the motion was carried.
