MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., presided at yesterday’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court.

Waki Lewis was charged with wilfully damaging clothing, a military great-coat, valued at £1 9s 2d, the property of the Government. He was ordered to pay for the epat, the Court costs being 12s. George Foot was charged with crossing the railway line in file Square when it was not clear. Senior-Sergeant Whitehouse gave evidence that defendant had told him he had not heard the warning bells. Defendant was fined £l. with 10s costs.

C. Bennett and J. Hughes were each charged with cycling at night without a light. Each was fined 10s, the former with 10s costs and the latter with 12s costs.

Walter John Garbntt . (Carterton) was ordered to pay his wife, Frances Garbutt, of Palmerston North. 5s a week maintenance. Mr J. M. Gordon appeared for complainant, Frances Garbutt.

Carlton Castleton Healey was ordered to pay 10s a week maintenance to Isabell Anne Healey (Wanganui).
