MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Appearing before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court today, Eraest Albert Wood, aged 42, of no fixed abode, pleaded not guilty to a charge that, on October 30, he stole a pair of pyjamas,_ valued at 12s 6d, the property of Miss A. Clark. Miss Clark gave evidence that she left the pyjamas on her bed in the sleeping porch at her home and next day saw them in a second-hand dealer’s shop. , , Alfred Penketh testified that accused had offered to him the pyjamas for sale. Witness knew the goods had been reported missing and took accused’s name and address. Senior-Detective Quirk© stated that he had arrested accused who had been under the influence of drink, but knew what he was doing. Accused said he had foolishly received the pyjamas from somebody else, and offered to sell them. Accused was convicted and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labour. An order was made for the return of the apparel to the owner. John Emil Enoch Sass, aged 57, appeared on a charge that, on November 2, he assualted Sophia Christina Sass so as to cause her actual bodily harm. On the application of SeniorSergeant Wliitehouse lie was remanded to appear again on November 7. Accused applied for bail, but Mr Whiteliouse said he did not think it would be advisable to grant it. Bail was refused.
