SIR APIRANA NGATA
ARAWA TRIBE’S CONFIDENCE,
ROTORUA, Nov. 2.
At a meeting of the Ngati Whakaue tribe, the resignation of Sir Apirana Ngata was discussed. The following resolution was passed:—“That the Prime Minister be appraised of the Arawa tribe’s unshakeable confidence in Sir Apirana Ngata, despite any criticism which may appear in the Commission’s report, and notwithstanding his resignation from the Cabinet he will always remain the virtual leader of the Maori race. We, therefore, earnestly pray that the Prime Minister will consider the retention of his services as representative of the Maori race on the Executive Council.” In a letter to Sir Apirana Ngata, the chairman of the meeting says:-—“I have much pleasure in remitting the following resolution unanimously ac; claimed at a meeting of Ngati Whakaue: ‘That this meeting of Arawa expresses its deepest regret that Sir Apirana Ngata has deemed it desirable to resign from the Cabinet, hut desires to assure him that notwithstanding any criticism which may appear in the Commission’s report, he will always retain the unshakeable confidence and support of the Arawa tribe. We are all loya.l to you as our leader. The Arawas will meet you when you arrive.”
