CANTERBURY MARKETS. A QUIET WEEK. . Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 2. The week has been extremely quiet in the produce markets. A few parcels of potatoes are going north to Wellington and side ports, but it is not expected that many more will be wanted in Auckland. The new season’s potatoes arc now coining into fairly general use. Values, nominally, for whites arc £2 5 C to £2 7s 6d a ton, f.0.b., s.i., and for Dakotas £2 10s to £2 12s 6d. Fowl wheat, is worth '3s 8d a bushel, f.0.b., s.c., for prompt delivery, the tendency having been easier. In view of the smaller area forecast for next year’s wheat crop, movement of the market is unexpected. Should the statistical estimates of 228,000 acres not bo exceeded, it is probable that most of the present cary-over of milling wheat will bo needed to supplement next season’s crop, in which case fowl wheat is likely to bo in short supply. Oats and small seeds show no change in price and the demand for them is practically lifeless. The intervention .of the holiday next week will confine business to a very small compass.
