MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

OFFENCE AGAINST CUSTOMS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 2. For attempting to defraud the Customs by making a false declaration of value, Isaac Grynszpan, alias Jack Green, a Pole, was fined £75 by the Magistrate, Mr E. Page. It was stated that defendant, instead of presenting the true invoice as delivered by the shippers at Sydney, _ obtained another certificate and filled it in himself showing a fictitious firm as the vendor. The false certificate showed a value of £253 9s 7d, whereas the true value -was £333 7s 4d.

Mr Page remarked that it was a calculated fraud against. the Customs revenue and he must impose a substantial fine. If defendant wanted the goods he could make application and the matter, no doubt, would be considered by the proper authorities.
