GLEN OROUA

(From Our Own Correspondent.) GLEN OROUA, Nov. 1

The largest crowd of the year was present at the Glen Oroua Social Club’s final euchre party and dance of the season. Tho ladies’ euchre prizes wero won by Mrs Slattery (Rongotea) and Mrs It. Buchanan (Rongotea), runner-up, while the men’s prizes went to Messrs L. Watkins and H. Robinson (runner-up). Mrs B. Alltree was the winner of a competition for a cake. Mr M. Morrissey and Miss J. Scott wero tho winners of the Monte Carlo waltz, while Mr Hanson and Miss M. Farmer were successful in tho lucky spot waltz. In the absence of the chairman, Mr H. J. Lancaster, who is at present in hospital, tho secretary (Mr L. H. Ihle) at a suitable juncture thanked the public for their continued atcndanco during the season. Thanks were also accorded the committee members for their splendid support, and the musicians for their courtesy and punctuality. Votes of thanks were carried by acclamation in the case of Mrs Steele for her donation of a cake for competition, and Mr C. V. Ciochctto for his donation of tho ladies’ points prize. Mr Ihle also tendered thanks to the other ladies and gentlemon who had assistod the club. Messrs C. H. O’Connor and H. Bell contributed extras for the dance, for which Mr L. H. Ihle was M.C. A meeting of tho Te Kawau Primary Schools Rugby Association was held in the Glen Oroua School on Monday night, when the following representatives wero present: Messrs Hall (Oroua Downs), Walker (Rongotea), Parlane (Glen Oroua), Kostor and Francis (Sanson), Mrs Brereton and Messrs Gledhill and Knox (Carnarvon), Hill (Taikorca), Morgan, Hill and Warner (Kopane). Mr S. G. Parlane, who has been acting as organiser since the departure of Mr J. B. Bennett for Wanganui, was appointed chairman of the association for the ensuing year, while Mr J. C. Ward (Taikorca) was appointed secretary. It was agreed that tho general committee consist of ono representative from each school in the Te Kawau Sub-Union’s district, the following being appointed: Messrs Koster (Sanson), Leet (Ohakea), Knox (Carnarvon), Luxford (Clydesdale), W. Ward (Awahuri), Warner (Kopane), Walker (Rongotea), Parlane (Glen Oroua), J. C. Ward (Taikorea), Caughlcy (Tangimoana), Shaw (Rangiotii), and Hall (Oroua Downs). Messrs Walker, Parlane and J. C. Ward were appointed as tho executive of the general committee. It was decided that a levy of five shillings be made on each team entering the competition next year. Rule 2 was amended to read as follows: “That players are not to exceed 9st 7lbs in weight, and are not to exceed 15 years of ago on August 1.” It was decided that two rounds be played in next year’s competition, and that no part be taken by schools of this sub-union in the quadrangular contest as in 1934. The executive was instructed to commence next season’s competition on the first. Saturday in April, tho fixtures to be sent out to tho various schools a fortnight before the commencement of the rounds. It was resolved that the Te Kawau Sub-Union be asked to give a ruling upon the principle involved in tho letter received from the Sanson School Committee regarding a player engaging in games for two grades. It was decided that the representative jerseys be left in charge of Mr Walker at Rongotea School. That the fixtures be strictly adhered to for tin 1935 season was unanimously agreed upon.

Tho third of a series of cricket matches was recently played on the Glen Oroua ground between the Taikorea and Glen Oroua schoolboys, the former winning a one innings match by 8 runs. Batting first, Taikorea compiled 46 runs (W. Hunt 11), Glen Oroua replying with 37 (R. Lawlor 20). The most successful bowlers for Taikorea wero I. Lucinsky, who took 7 wickets for 10 runs, and N. Jones with 3 for 10, while for Glen Oroua F. Lawlor (4 for 5), J. Huddleston (2 for 5) and R. Lawlor (3 for 12) were most successful.
