WOODVILLE COUNTY.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Woodvino County Council was held yesterday, when Cr. M. O. Grainger presided. Others present were Crs. R. Maboy, G. Peebles, R. H. Morgan, T. H. Williams, 0. H. Drnce, J. Galloway and N. Sheffield. The Main Highways Board advised that members would visit Woodville on December 3 to confer on highway matters.—Received. The Hawke’s Bay County Council wrote with" reference to the allocation of heavy traffic fees for the year ended March 31, 1934, stating that if replies from borough councils were in favour of the present system being maintained a conference of county and borough delegates would be called at a future date. —The chairman remarked that the letter was inexplicable and that it should bo received. He added that he could not see how the matter concerned the boroughs.—This action was taken. The Department of Healtli intimated that it was anticipated that it would be possible in the near future to make a reduction in the contributions by local bodies towards the health inspector’s salary.—The chairman paid a tribute to the manner in which Mr Welsh had carried out liis duties in the Woodville district. Other councillors concurred, stating that Woodville had every reason to be satisfied with the present officer. The Y.M.C.A. (Wellington) wrote advising that it was intended to conduct a holiday tour for members during the holiday period and that a pneu-matic-tyred omnibus had been chartered for the purpose. As a pa.rt of tho route to be traversed included roads in the Woodville district, whose classification may not ordinarily permit of the operation of a vehicle of 7\ tons gross weight, they sought special permission to use the roads.—Referred to the engineer.
Mr H. Sinclair sought permission to lay a water pipe line from Mr Bicknell’s property across Range ltoad.— Granted.
Mr E. S. Klein wrote asking the county to consider the advisability of putting a fence round a bog .opposite Mr Judd’s house in Sturdeo’s Road.— Agreed to. ENGINEER’S REPORT.
The engineer (Mr J. W. Hawkes) reported on the month’s operations, inter, alia, as follows:—Woodville-Palmer-ston North No. I.—. Surface repairs were attended to where necessary. An extra width of_ longitudinal decking was placed on Simpson’s bridge. A 6ft timber culvert was replaced with concrete. Napier-AVellington, Nos. 2-5: Various portions of the old seal are being scarified and re-shaped, metalled and consolidated in preparation for re-sealing. Grading wns done on other portions where necessary, and surface repairs attended to. Wintertables were cleaned. Woodville-Hopela.nds, No. 6: Grading was done periodically, and metal repairs attended to. WoodvilleTamaki, Nos. 7-8: Grading was done throughout; metal repairs were oarried out where necessary. Side drains and water-tables were cleaned and culverts repaired. —The report was adopted. The pay-sheet, amounting to £599 Is sd, was passed for payment.
