FARMING NOTES.

RURAL RAKINGS. A case of sheep worrying by dogs is reported by a Hokio (Levin) farmer. Twenty lambs were recently either killed on his property, or wero so badly injured as to necessitate destruction. Many others were wounded, but may yet be saved. All fatal wounds were in the throat. The past month has seen a heavy drain exercised on Hawke’s Bay store cattle supplies, to fill the demand in outside areas. It is estimated that between 10,000 and .15,000 head have been sent out during tho past four or five weeks, to the Manawatu, Wairarapa, or Taranaki. Wool has commenced to arrive in Wanganui stores in readiness for the first Wancranui sale of the season, which takes place in January. Auckland will open the New Zealand selling season this month. Lambing in Southern ITawke s Bay is now practically at an end and reports from the various districts show excellent percentages. which in the aggregate compare favourably with the figures for last year. Tn spite of severe storms and cold snaps there has been very little. mortality, but some of the lambs are not as far forward in condition as in previous years. Totalling 50 cases, each containing I(JU ounces, a consignment of strychnine was landed from England at Dunedin last week by tho motor ship Wanvcra, and will be distributed to slock inspectors m the Otago and Southland district from Kurow .to Otautau for rabbit .extermination. . I hero is not a great demand for strychnine for rabbit poisoning in the summer, and it is expected that the 5000 ounces ,ust imported will fulfil all requirements until about next May, says a southern report. At a meeting of the Marton branch olthe Farmers’ Union the following resolution was passed unanimously: While agreeing with much of the proposed Agricultural (Emergency Powei-sj Bill, we are thoroughly opposed to the creation or a supreme council of three nominated by the Government, and feel that in lieu thereof, an executive committee should be appointed by the existing boards to deal with the marketing and selling of produce, but without power to make levies on the industries concerned without ..consultation with existing boards.”
